Gosh, Golly, Perigee

According to National Geographic, the term “supermoon” was coined in 1979 by an astrologist name Richard Noell. But I can only recall its widespread use over the last five or so years, coinciding with the explosion of social media. “Lunar Perigee Syzygy” just might be too hard to hashtag for Twitter and Instagram.

No matter, because a big full moon is a sight to behold whatever it’s called.

And when a lunar perigee syzygy does occur, one thing becomes evident: the moon sure has a lot of dents.
