I’ve been working on a renewable energy project since November, photographing a number of wind and solar projects in the state. I’ve photographed solar panels and wind turbines at Colorado destinations like Cheyenne Wells, Model, Walsenburg, Calhan, and Matheson. I’ve learned to tell the difference between a General Electric and Vestas nacelle and can recognize a juwi solar panel from a distance of 100 feet away.
What I hope to do provide a resource to news organizations reporting on Colorado renewable energy and want to source photos for their stories. Wind and solar energy have been gotten a huge push from the Colorado legislature and governor’s office the past few years and utilities that in the past have embraced carbon-based fuels to generate power are re-examining those commitments and have made sizable investments in renewables.
Having seen a number of online stories about the state’s move into green energy, only to see stock images of same that have nothing to do with Colorado led me to go out and shoot photos about the places, utilities, and policies I’d been reading about. I’ve no idea how such an offering will be received. The answer, I guess, is blowing in the wind. What I do know, however, is that the sun don’t shine on a sleeping dog’s ass.
