Last Spring I spotted a Day of the Dead-themed mural a few blocks from our house on Abriedno Ave. and made a couple photos of it from my dwindling stock of Polaroid film.
I shot this Catrina mural last March. The black-and-white image was taken with a SX-70, the other with a SLR 680. Photos by Mike Sweeney/©2020
It features a likeness of Catrina crossed with a Bratz doll. It isn’t what I’d call a traditional rendering of the renowned Señora de dia de los muertos, but it’s location along a busy thoroughfare makes it an eye-catching piece of rattle can art.
