February was a crazy month for weather in southern Colorado.
Temperatures were, on average, 10 degrees above normal for the first part of the month in Pueblo. There were afternoons that were downright pleasant, reaching into the 70s. By the close of the month, however, Pueblo’s February snowfall totaled 23.5 inches, eclipsing the previous record set in 1894, and surpassing its monthly average by over 19 inches. Yet despite that wintry snap, temperatures still ended up above average for the month.
Even the National Weather Service raised an eyebrow at the disparate weather, calling February “a tale of two seasons across much of south central and southeast Colorado” in their monthly climate review.
The video above was taken a nine days apart at Lake Pueblo State Park and underscores the wacky weather conditions in Pueblo during February. It makes one wonder what might be in store for March.
