Cassie and Tony spent nearly 24 quality hours in the Steel City recently. It was the highlight of a whirlwind trip to the Centennial State the daughter-father team made that included an extended weekend stay in Boulder.
It was the second trip to Colorado for both Alcocers but Cassie’s first visit to Pueblo. She can now tick off having experienced Bingo Burger and the Riverwalk from her bucket list. They also got to hang with our dogs, Reina and Rafa, who, thankfully were on their best behavior. Tony got a middle-of-the-night visit from our cat Luna, too.
Then it was off to Boulder to rendezvous with Uncle Mark and later, Enedina, who joined us after wrapping up work at Red Lobster.
An aside: I’m gonna go out on a limb and say we all ate too much that weekend: Pasta Jay’s for dinner, Foolish Craig’s for breakfast, then a sojourn to Whole Foods for an Easter picnic at North Boulder Park.
In any case, the girls ditched the old folks to step out on the town Saturday evening. Mark, Monica, and I watched “Argo” on Mark’s killer home entertainment system while Tony was laying the legal groundwork to insure the annual rocket launch he’s taken part in for years at the Black Rock playa will take place later this fall.
We spent alot time together, although unlike last time Cassie came to Boulder and we all stayed at Mark’s place, Monica, Enedina, and I stayed at the Boulder Marriott this go around. Six adults, four of whom are over the age of 45, spending two nights one room apartment is a recipe for some serious familial tension.
Not surprisingly, Cassie still clings to her crabby disposition for Colorado’s favorite shoe: Crocs. Frankly, the lady doth protest too much, methinks on this particular matter. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she had a closet full of Crocs in her Bay Area home!
It was a good visit, a fun visit, with the Alcocers. It’s an interesting time in both their lives. Tony’s on the brink of retirement after a 30 year career with the Santa Rosa Fire Department and Cassie’s on the cusp of launching her teaching career. It was nice to share in both of those milestones, albeit in a small way.
I’d rather be a small part of it now than hear about it over lunch a year or so after the fact.

hi michael I was delightfully surprised to find your very timely and current report of the Alcocer’s visit great the group picture was very respresentative of the personalities involved it made me chuckle you are not there but I can well imagine you behind the camera attempting to get just the certain dynamics and ambiance of the gathering. Easter here was a major soiree at AJ and Ali’s. It poured rain and I got to hold a beautiful 4 month old baby – those were my two major highlights in a sea of Easter eggs, major food and a dining room table filled with assorted deserts. Those two are marvelous hosts Again I totally enjoyed the pictures love to you and Monica
